About Me
I’m an artist living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with my boyfriend, Sam. I love art, DIY design, vintage cookware and food. I also love cheese, but I try not to eat too much of it. I don’t eat meat. I do eat fish. I believe in cooking as a creative practice that can conjure memories, tell stories and build communities.
This blog chronicles my culinary experiences in my Greenpoint kitchen.

thanks for the great recipes! i just made a cup of tea and wish that i had one – maybe two- of your cupcakes.

Candy Eve
By the way, I was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to California in 1966 to the Thousand Oaks area, where I live today. I am a graphic artist, and a (new) writer, and I am just learning to build websites. I like yours.
I also found out about 4 years ago I was toxically allergic to any Hydrogenated oil, so I can’t eat out in many places, and have had to learn to cook. I have to cook the way GREAT GRANDMA did before the onset of the TV DINNER and fast food. No chemicals, processed foods, or much that comes in a box or frozen. They have removed a lot of bad things from the “ingredients lists” and have lulled us into a false sense of believing that the NEW processed food is better, and healthier, and even ORGANIC, but many large companies are still lying.
Since I react in minutes, I can tell you for sure that THEY ARE LYING!! Hydrogenated oils are being hidden in things like PEANUT BUTTER that is listed in chocolate candy, and BBQ SEASONING that is listed in Organic chips.
In this country, still, if they use an ingredient that they purchase complete, they do not have to list its breakdown ingredients in that part of their recipe. SO THEY LIE!!!
Also ZERO TRANSFAT is not the same as NO TRANSFAT. It has a lot of HYDROGENATED OIL IN IT. And sadly, I have found many things labeled NO TRANSFAT that I still react to. THEY LIE!
McDonald’s sells its Grilled Chicken, not the fried, as NO HYDROGENATED OIL. I reacted to it. I called the corporate office, and they told me they bought it frozen, and it was pre-coated in Partially Hydrogenated oil, but since they use only water on the grill they don’t have to tell anyone it is on that chicken. Now, I know if they are grilling something with Hydrogenated oil, on a grill all day, the residue is getting on everything. It is like sticky plastic. That is what causes plaque in your arteries, among other things. SO THEY LIE!
Anyhow, I found some Descoware, fell in love with it, and have been taking cooking and baking lessons. I get free lessons at Whole Foods and at William Sonoma.
As for me, personally, I never married, so I live with my mom, and a lovely orange MANX cat named Mandy. I hope by learning to cook properly my future options for relationships will open up. Who knows… LOL anything is possible!

Thanks for reading my blog, Candy! I love Descoware and am always excited to meet another person who uses it to cook and bake. Thanks for the links to your articles– very informative!
I’ve found that with packaged foods, you are right– there are a lot of hidden transfats and strange chemicals. There’s also MSG in so many packaged foods. That’s why I strive to make everything from scratch. I’m not perfect, but, I’m trying!
