Plantains look like bananas, but they are much starchier– and although they have a faint banana-like flavor, they are actually more similar in consistency to a sweet potato. Slice them and fry them for a delicious and simple side dish or snack.
Look for very ripe plantains for this dish.
- 3 plantains, peeled and sliced
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Sea salt to taste
Heat 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the plantains. Flip after a couple minutes, and fry until tender and both sides are golden brown. Drain excess oil on clean paper towels and salt to taste.
